VASCDP professionals offer planning, assessment, training, resources and hands-on support to successfully include children with extra support needs in typical child care settings.
VASCDP is a family centred program that is voluntary and free of charge. Parents may self-refer or, with parent permission, referrals may come from community professionals such as Infant Development Consultants, Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Family Doctors, Public Health Nurses and Social Workers.
Who are the Children?
The program is intended to serve children from birth to 12, with services for youth 13 -19 years available in some communities.
Aboriginal children with developmental delays, including communication, speech & language delays, fine motor and gross motor delays, cognitive delays, and Social/emotional/behavioral delays. Some children may have diagnoses such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), deaf and hard of hearing, visually impaired, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), speech disorders and complex health care needs.
Who are the Families?
Families can include birth, adopted, and foster families. Aboriginal families can be living on or off reserve and can be Status, Non-Status, Metis or Inuit. Band affiliation is not necessary.
FeesThe services and supports available through our program are free of charge. However, all families are responsible for their child care fees. Families may apply for the child care subsidy and the special needs subsidy to assist with child care fees. Our staff are available to assist you with this process.
Honouring your confidentiality is important to us. We do not share your child’s information with anyone unless you have given us consent to do so. At the initial visit, we will have you sign a "Consent to Release” form and a "Consent to Obtain/Release Information” form. The Consent to Obtain/Release form lets us know who you have given us permission to share information with. The consents are valid for one year.
