Harvest Festival and Ceremony - October 2, 2007

Our Harvest Festival on October 2nd was an amazing success! Over one hundred people came out to feast, celebrate and be in ceremony with us. We had deer stew, Three Sisters stew, Sockeye and brown rice, baked bannock and berry butter, barbecued corn, and coleslaw. We had Larry Grant from Musqueam tell us stories about the land, then we went into ceremony with Dr. Lee Brown (Cherokee)and Gene Harry (Squamish.) We harvested our tobacco while they drummed and sang. Of course, afterward we acknowledged Mother Earth, the Creator, the cooks, the gardeners, the hunters, the fishers and the gatherers for their important work: a Growing Season and Harvest that was very abundant! Thanks everybody for coming and for all your help putting on such an awesome event!Looking back on the growing season - November 14, 2007

Every year, after the majority of our outdoor work is done in the Garden, we look back on the year that was. We do this using Appreciative Inquiry: a model where we talk about what is working best first then imagine what it would be like if everything was that good. When we create this vision, then we make plans for the following year and decide whaat all of our roles will be in that plan. Of course, we ate first! Organic beef stew, baked salmon, baked bannock... Dave wasn't very happy that there wasn't any jam! Next time...

Anyways, we talked about different ways we could fundraise for the Garden, having more Gardens like ours in the city, bringing more people to the Garden, and helping people learn more about the medicinal plants all around them. It was very good to talk with everyone and it will be helpful in framing what our Community Meeting will be like in late February.Garden Community Meeting - February 27, 2008 12:00PM - 2:00PM

Simon Baker Room, Friendship Centre, Vancouver, BC

This is where we get out our veggie, fruit, medicine and activity posters and everybody gets some stickers and we "vote" on the things we want to grow and do the most over the next Growing Season. It's a lot of fun and, oh yeah, we eat good food too.Blessing of the Land Ceremony and Celebration - April 8, 2008 11:00AM - 2:00PM

University of British Columbia Farm, Vancouver, BC

This is our "kick off" celebration and ceremonies for the Garden. Of course, we do a lot of work before this like starting plants indoors and feeding the soil but this is when the Garden starts to get into full swing. Spiritual People from different parts of Turtle Island bless the land in their own traditional ways and, you guessed it, we feast on great local food! This day is what gets a lot of people hooked on the Garden so make sure you come to this one.Summer Celebration For Youth - July 10, 2008 3:30PM - Sunset

University of British Columbia Farm, Vancouver, BC

One thing about the Garden is it's hard to get youth out during the school year so we want to have a big get together during the Summer Holidays. We'll eat traditional foods and from the Garden. The BBQ will be smokin'! Maybe we'll throw the frisbee, football, or baseball around and listen to some local Indigenous MCs and bands. It will be dah bomb (or is that dah balm?)Harvest Festival and Ceremony - September 30, 2008 11:00AM - 2:00PM
