Project History

The project provided intergenerational fun!

The project started in late April 2005. Musqueam offered to share their garden plot at the UBC Farm with Aboriginal people living in East Van. A community meeting was held in May 2005 to invite groups to participate. Participants included the Granny Hoes from the Friendship Centre; VANDU with Downtown Eastside Community Kitchen Project; Lifeskills; Mind, Body, Spirit project of Healing our Spirit; VAECS; & ADAPT, Vancouver Native Health Society. So far we've had: Over 300 different participants with many returning again and again,

Thousands of hours of voluntary participation by Eastside residents, and almost 3 tons of harvested food! We have grown and harvested: radishes, mustard greens, turnips, beans, rutabagas, peas, zucchini, Swiss chard, broccoli, cauliflower, squash, mixed herbs, blackberries, carrots, tomatoes, tomatillos, kale, kohlrabi, white sage, tobacco, spinach, lettuces, salmon berries, raspberries, cucumbers, dill, culinary sage, calendula, potatoes, borage, basil, thyme, parslet, rosemary, sunflowers, mint, blueberries, plantain, clover flowers, lamb's quarters, salal berries, corn, onions, leeks, green onions, garlic, bok choy, cilantro, beets, parsnips, and cabbage! And other good stuff that I just can't think of right now!
